MY STORY

Hello! I am Ashley Summerville.

Welcome to my family.

I am a crazy dog mom to two lovely rescue dogs that legit mean the world to me. They are the reason I started my journey in pet photography.

Over the years I always wanted family photos, but I was scared to get them done because I had dogs with behavioral needs. They are the most loving dogs in the world with us, but they aren't like your typical pets. They would be misunderstood by many people. Cooper is anxious and has a high prey drive. Quinoa is dog selective and doesn't like to be greeted by other dogs.

My fear of their stressors coupled with wanting to make them the "perfect" dog made me NEVER want to get family photos done. This led me to my decision to be THE photographer who can be there for others who might think their dog isn't "perfect" enough for a photoshoot.

I've spent years learning how to photograph pets from all walks of life. I dedicate time into learning how to best serve my clients with nervous, reactive, selective, or aggressive pets by collaborating with a psychology based trainer.

The best way to describe me is..

I am a military wife, a dog mom to two adorable rescue pups, lover of the outdoors, and a passion for travel.

Yes, I am the person who is obsessed with animals and what I do for a living.

I started Paws for Portraits in early 2022 as a result of multiple health issues restraining me from working a full time job. My husband gave me the idea to pursue my passion of photography and I turned it into a full time career.

Over the years, I have made it my mission to constantly strengthen my craft. I have attended photography courses such as Embark by Unleash education and have become a lifetime member of Unleash Education.

I am the person who hates talking about herself, but I am really proud to say that I have won multiple awards. I have even obtained an international pet photography award.

FAQ'S

I have a nervous, reactive, and or agressive pet. Can I still get photos taken?: Honestly, that is okay. Please do not stress! We will work as a team to make your dog feel comfortable!

I take time at the start of each session for the dog to get to know me, so they feel more comfortable. We can go to locations with limited activity around to alleviate your pets stress. If you are overly concerned, you can schedule a shoot during the week as opposed to weekend to lesson distractions.

I have previous experience working with leash reactive and nervous dogs. My personal dogs have seen trainers all over the country to get experience helping my leash reactive and nervous pets.
Does my dog need to be off leash, or trained perfectly?: Nope.

Most of all my clients will leave their dogs leashes on, and most of the time I will encourage you to make sure we keep the leash on your pet for safety reasons. Thanks to editing software I am able to take leashed out of images too!

Your dog/cat doesn't need to have a perfect sit or stay or even know to do fancy tricks to get awesome photos taken.
What should I do while my pet is getting their photos taken?: I highly encourage all the parents to be as hands during the session and help me. This is due to making the pup or cat feel the most comfortable they can be.
What are your hours?: 24/7 is what I like to say. My sessions tend to be during the morning around sunrise, and in the evening around sunset. This is due to getting the best lighting of the day (:
Where are you located?: All over Georgia but mostly Atlanta, Houston, and Bibb county.

I travel often to Hawaii, and Pennsylvania so traveling to a location is never out of the picture for me.
What payment options do you accept?: Paypal or venmo currently. With Paypal you are able to use your credit cards.
How long is a session usally?: With me our sessions are never rushed, but most session last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.
Do you take photos of events?: Yes, I love taking event photos!
Do you take photos for shelters?: Yes, email me to see what we can collaborate on together.
Do you do product work?: Yes, and I LOVE IT.
Do you work with small businesses?: YES, and I truly love working with small businesses!!
